Various methods are discussed leading directly to enantiopure heterocyclic compounds. Asymmetric catalysis with chiral templates involving hydrogen bonds or metal complexes provides efficient access heterocycles. Enzyme can be simplified when one more enzyme activities replaced by a simple photochemical step, especially photoredox catalysis.
